The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) has secured a vehicle sponsorship from BAIC South Africa to support logistics for the upcoming G20 Summit in South Africa. The handover ceremony took place at the OR Tambo Building, DIRCO headquarters, where Chief Financial Officer Ms. Hlengiwe Bhengu formally received the vehicles.
The contribution forms part of the preparations for South Africa’s G20 Presidency, during which the country is hosting global leaders, delegates, and high-level officials. Transportation support is a crucial element of summit logistics, ensuring safe and timely movement of delegates between venues, accommodation, and events.

BAIC South Africa, the local arm of the Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Company, is a major player in the South African automotive sector. The company has increasingly engaged in corporate social responsibility and strategic partnerships, particularly in supporting government initiatives and national events. By providing vehicles for the summit, BAIC reinforces its commitment to national development and public-private collaboration.
The partnership highlights the importance of private-sector contributions in enabling government-led international engagements, while also showcasing South Africa’s capacity to host large-scale global events. DIRCO expressed gratitude for BAIC’s support, noting that such collaborations are vital for the smooth execution of logistics, security, and transport operations during high-profile diplomatic gatherings.
