Windhoek, Namibia – The Namibia Energy Connect and Energy Trailblazer Awards 2025 convened in early November in Windhoek, bringing together key stakeholders from across the nation’s energy sector. Hosted by the Namibia Youth Energy Forum (NYEF), the event attracted representatives from major international energy firms including TotalEnergies and Shell, alongside government officials and local entrepreneurs, reinforcing the platform’s role in driving strategic partnerships and innovation.
The event served as a launchpad for youth-led initiatives and investments in green hydrogen projects. A centerpiece of the conference was the unveiling of the N$10 million Youth Energy Fund, designed to empower young Namibians to participate actively in the energy sector through mentorship, skills development, and access to project financing. NYEF director and board chairperson Fanuel Shinedima highlighted the importance of inclusive local content and youth engagement for sustainable energy growth.
Discussions at the conference spanned multiple themes central to Namibia’s energy future. Delegates examined strategies to leverage the country’s vast solar and wind resources for renewable energy production and the development of green hydrogen, positioning Namibia as a global player in the emerging sector. The importance of local content was a recurring topic, focusing on how skills development, supply chain participation, and entrepreneurship can ensure that Namibia’s energy growth benefits its citizens. Strategic partnerships between government entities, private companies, and international investors were emphasized as key mechanisms for driving energy projects, while investment and financing discussions addressed regulatory frameworks and opportunities for youth-led enterprises.
The conference also showcased Namibia’s commitment to energy transition and infrastructure expansion. Projects such as the World Bank-funded Transmission Expansion and Energy Storage initiative and the construction of solar and wind power plants, including the 20MW Khan Solar PV and 50MW Karas Luderitz wind farm, highlight the country’s focus on reducing electricity import reliance and strengthening the national grid. The event recognized the achievements of individuals and organizations advancing innovation, sustainability, and youth participation through the Energy Trailblazer Awards.
Namibia Energy Connect 2025 confirmed the sector’s dual priorities of accelerating renewable energy adoption while embedding local content and youth empowerment.
