Ghanaian actress, producer, and director Juliet Ibrahim premiered her latest short film Behind a Lie at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos, Nigeria, marking another milestone in her multi-faceted career in West African cinema. The screening, which brought together cast, crew, and industry supporters, highlighted Ibrahim’s continued commitment to authentic African storytelling and female-led filmmaking.
The short film, produced under Juliet Ibrahim Studios, delves into the complexities of truth, deception, and redemption within modern relationships. Directed by Ibrahim and filmed by cinematographer Sjay101, Behind a Lie features performances from Doris Okorie, Efa Iwara, and Ibrahim herself. Assistant Director Obitayo Oluwaseun Obijole supported production efforts.

Ibrahim’s creative vision for the film aligns with AFRIFF’s mission to amplify African narratives on global platforms. Founded in 2010, AFRIFF has grown into one of the continent’s most prestigious film festivals, attracting filmmakers from across Africa and the diaspora.
The Ghanaian-Liberian-Lebanese actress rose to prominence after her debut role in Crime to Christ (2005) and has since appeared in over 50 productions across Ghana’s Ghallywood and Nigeria’s Nollywood. She received Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2010 Ghana Movie Awards for 4 Play and was honored with an Achievement in Directing award for Widow’s Gift in 2024.
Beyond film, Ibrahim is the first female President of Women in Film, Television, and Media Ghana (WIFT Ghana), advocating for gender equity and professional growth for women in the creative industries. Her humanitarian work through the Juliet Ibrahim Foundation focuses on providing medical and emotional support to survivors of sexual violence and domestic abuse.

Born in Accra, she spent her early years in Lebanon and Côte d’Ivoire, shaping her multicultural identity. Fluent in English, French, and Spanish, Ibrahim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Communications. She is also the author of the memoir A Toast to Life and has been described by A-listers Magazine as one of West Africa’s most influential and admired women.
Behind a Lie represents a continuation of Ibrahim’s journey to merge artistry with advocacy, ensuring African women’s stories are told with authenticity and depth across global screens.
